Early in 2017, I started Wild about Weeds garden services. Since then, the team and I have learnt a lot about local garden problems and we apply that knowledge in our daily mahi.
Using our knowledge, our observations, and our study, we have built a business that supports the local environment. We know that domestic gardens are valuable for wildlife and biodiversity and are part of the local environment.
Our proactive holistic approach saves you money and solves garden problems - often before you know you have them.

Garden problems
Here are some of the garden problems we encounter:
Here are some of the garden problems we encounter:
- weeds, weeds, weeds, especially the invasive ones
- Plants are struggling, diseased etc.
- how to attract wildlife: birds, insects, lizards.
- what to plant.
- Soil won’t hold water (hydrophobic)
- The most common cry I hear is that people want a low maintenance garden.
Usually the overall problem is that the garden isn't working as an ecosystem where all organisms, living and non-living, depend on each other. When the nutrient cycle links them all, the ecosystem is gradually restored to its equilibrium and functions healthily.
Solutions
To achieve this, we consider these factors:
Solutions
To achieve this, we consider these factors:
- Manage weeds esp invasive weeds
- Improve the soil
- Manage plant health eg pests, pruning
- Increase biodiversity: plant, bird, soil microoganisms
- Repurpose what’s on your property.
Healthy weeds, struggling plants
The invasive weeds (eg tradescantia, convolvulus, ivy, old man’s beard, cape ivy) quickly smother trees and take over the garden.
Plants haven’t been cared for and are leggy, diseased, unhappy. They may be unhealthy, not thriving and starting to die.
With these two factors, desirable plants are soon disadvantaged.
Our kete includes ways to manage invasive and other weeds which includes essential monitoring, and identifying the worst weeds before they get hold. With our extensive plant care knowledge, we identify and resolve problems.

Dormant soil
Soil is the basis of healthy plants yet often the soil is dormant with poor structure due to past treatment, or lack of nutrients. It has no robust underground communities with mycelium, microorganisms and all the other goodies.
Compacted soil, or clay doesn’t allow water and air to enter. Poor soil structure doesn’t hold water for later use. Past synthetic fertiliser and chemical use have depleted anything beneficial in the soil.
Climate change with heavier rain and drier summers cause soil, water and nutrients to wash away leaving depleted soil which affects plants and the whole ecosystem.

Lack of biodiversity
The garden has limited biodiversity, within plants, creatures, insects or underground organisms.
We leave self-seeded natives if in the right place, propagate healthy plants. Planting a shrub or two each year makes a difference. We sow seeds to attract pollinators and to improve the soil.

Use what’s on your property
Some ways we do this:
Some ways we do this:
- Make compost or weed piles with pruning and weeds.
- Use branches to make a dead hedge.
- Weeds can teach us about the soil.
- Grow new plants from existing plants.
- Create places for lizards and insects to hide.
Over time and working with nature, we revive your garden so it’s a natural environment you can enjoy.
