Spring garden care
Get your garden summer-ready
Spring is when plants are putting on new growth, weeds are rampant, and flowers and fruit are just around the corner.
It’s also the time to prepare your garden for summer. As the weather warms up and rainfall becomes less reliable, plants have to cope with drier conditions while putting energy into flowers and fruit.
A little preparation now can make a big difference later.
Keep on top of weeds
Spring warmth and moisture bring a flush of weed growth.
Getting on top of weeds while they’re small prevents them competing with your plants — and saves a much bigger job later in the season.
Mulch to protect the soil
A good layer of mulch helps keep moisture in the soil, keeps the soil cooler and protects soil biology. It also helps suppress new weeds.
We use suitable materials available onsite where possible. Or can arrange additional mulch.
Feed plants that are productive
Actively growing plants need more nutrients, particularly when they’re producing flowers and fruit.
Spring is a good time to make sure plants have what they need to develop strong growth and healthy root systems.

Get new plants in the ground now
If you’re thinking about adding plants, spring is the last good opportunity to get them established before summer.
Planting now gives new plants time to develop their roots while conditions are still favourable.
I have a few plants available at the moment, so if you have an area that could do with some planting, let me know — I may have just the thing.
Your garden is part of your home
It’s easy to think of the garden as something that simply needs to be kept tidy. But it’s also part of your home, and also benefits from regular care and investment.
Good garden care is about doing the right things at the right time — protecting your investment and making sure your garden is ready for you to enjoy when the good weather arrives.
